What To Expect in a Collaborative Divorce
November 16, 2022
A collaborative divorce is a newer offering among family law practices. When most people think of divorce, the picture of traditional divorce pops into their mind — with two spouses arguing with or intimidating each other, and separate attorneys trying to outdo the other one.
Collaborative divorce is completely different than traditional divorce. In collaborative divorce, both parties along with the support of two collaborative attorneys, a divorce coach and a financial neutral take the steps necessary to address the needs unique to their case and create a lasting divorce settlement without court intervention.
During the first meeting, each spouse will meet their representing collaborative divorce attorney. Each spouse will also sign a participation agreement and agrees to openly and honestly share all relevant information necessary to address the financial and legal issues of their case. All subsequent negotiations are conducted in six-way meetings with:
- Your collaborative divorce attorney
- Your Spouse
- Your Spouse’s collaborative divorce attorney
- Divorce coach
- Financial neutral
During these meetings, we create acceptable solutions and resolutions to the various aspects of the divorce to include division of assets/debts, parenting plan for children and future financial arrangements. This transparent, safe and structured environment is what we offer our Hill Law Firm clients. You can expect professionalism and integrity from all of our team members.
A collaborative divorce will not include the typical court subpoenas, litigation stress or adversarial attitudes present in traditional divorce. At Hill Law Firm, we recognize that ending a relationship can be painful, but it still can be done in a thoughtful and respectful manner.
